Preventative Care

Preventing diseases is often much easier, cheaper, and safer than treating them. An annual or semi-annual examination by a veterinarian can help evaluate your pet for many illnesses, including dental disease, weight issues, arthritis, vision changes, heart disease, and many other before your pet is even showing symptoms of these problems.

Vaccination and Parasite Prevention

Vaccines are one of the most common ways we prevent illnesses in our pets. Vaccines teach the immune system to recognize and defeat an invading bacteria or virus before they cause illness in our pets. We offer many vaccines and tailor your pet's vaccine regimen based on their lifestyle and exposure risk.

Parasite prevention is also extremely important. Heartworms are a deadly disease that affects both dogs and cats. It is extremely common in this area, is spread by mosquitos, and is much safer and cheaper to prevent than to treat. Heartworm prevention also prevents intestinal worms that can plague our pets and affect human family members.

Fleas and ticks affect both indoor and outdoor pets. Not only are they undesirable, both fleas and ticks can spread serious illnesses to our patients and their owners. With so many preventions on the market, we can determine which options are best for your pet.

Diagnostic Laboratory

If our patient's could talk to us, our jobs would be much easier. While listening to symptoms from owners, checking vitals, and a thorough examination can tell us a lot about our patient's illness, we often need to use other tools to help diagnose the problem. By taking samples and analyzing them, we can investigate further and help rule in or out many issues. Our in-clinic laboratory can help us run many of these tests on site and quickly. We also work closely with outside laboratories for other tests as needed. Using these tools for illness and also as screening tools for preventative care allows us to better determine what ails our voiceless patients.

Surgery

Our surgical suite provides a clean and calm environment for elective, non-elective, and emergency surgeries during opening hours. From the moment your pet arrives, a surgical technician/assistant and doctor will assess them and strive to make the process as stress-free as possible. The doctors keep up-to-date on the latest surgical techniques and procedures. We offer many types of surgeries, such as spay/neuter, orthopedic surgeries, tumor removals, foreign body surgeries, cystotomies, pyometra surgeries, among many others. Give us a call to inquire about your pet's surgical needs.

Dental Equipment

Dentistry

By age 3, over 80% of dogs and cats have some evidence of periodontal disease. Advanced periodontal disease can lead to spread of bacteria to important internal organs, lead to tooth loss and painful abscesses. Your pet's dental health will be assessed at each yearly examination, and technician appointments are available to evaluate your pet's dental health as well. Small dogs, some breeds, and older patients are more susceptible to dental disease and may need more frequent dental cleanings or damaged tooth extractions.

Ultrasound

Ultrasounds allow us to visualize the inside of your pet without invasive surgery. It allows us to look for signs of infection, organ issues, and cancers. Ultrasounds provides a more detailed look of the insides of different organs. Dr. Richard Blake has concluded advanced training in ultrasound of the heart (echocardiograms) and abdominal ultrasound techniques. This service is normally only provided at specialty referral centers.

Nutrition

Over the past decade, food for dogs and cats has become overwhelming to navigate. There are new foods on the market everyday and owners are bombarded with fancy advertising and conflicting information. Our veterinarians and staff can help you sort through this information to find a food that best fits your pet's needs and your lifestyle and budget.

With a large portion of dogs and cats having weight issues, your pet's doctor can help formulate a calorie count and a weight management plan. Keeping our pets at a healthy weight can help add years to their lives.

Geriatric Pet Care

As our pets age, new problems arise: arthritis, digestive issues, organ dysfunction, etc. These pets need special attention to make sure their quality of life remains at the best level possible. From treating arthritis pain, to helping decide what food is the best for an aging digestive tract, to doing routine screening test for common conditions, we can help ease your concerns with these aging issues and strive to extend your pets healthy years as long as possible.

When quality of life issues become overwhelming, and unfortunate end of life decisions need to be discussed, our staff strives to provide the most compassionate setting possible. Our Comfort Room provides a quite and comfortable setting for these discussions and times. In a time of stress and grief we hope to provide a place of comfort and support.

Exotic Care

We will see some limited reptile and exotic species. Our vets and staff have some experience with exotics, but may refer to a specialist for complicated cases; or for specific species. We are not set up for a large amount of procedures with them, such as surgical procedures or complex illness cases. We will offer basic husbandry, exams, and treatments. Anything more extent would be offered a referral to an exotic specialist. Please call us with any and all questions regarding your exotic. We are more than happy to set up an appointment to see if we match your needs.
